The 7th AIPLA Women in IP Law Committee Global Networking Event 2025, hosted by LexOrbis, Bengaluru, was held on Monday, April 7, in Bengaluru, Karnataka. The event built upon the ongoing deliberations on “Innovation and Collaboration” and brought together a spirited panel of women visionaries who explored how these two elements are driving the future of intellectual property.
Ms. Bindu Sharma, Origiin IP Solutions, moderated the session and opened with the need to increase the number of women inventors, calling for more support schemes like TIFAC. Ms. Chitra Iyer, Philips, emphasised recognising individual strengths and building trust in cross-border teams, drawing from her experience in licensing.
Ms. Kavita Gupta, Mylab Discovery Solutions, spoke about challenges women face in leadership, such as gender bias, career breaks, and work-life balance, and encouraged self-belief, learning, and well-being, sharing how yoga supported her through career transitions. Dr. Paromita Ghosh, The Duracell Company, discussed the shift from traditional IP to open collaboration, where companies co-develop and share knowledge. She stressed the need for clear IP ownership and strong communication across cultures and teams.
Ms. Suhasini S, C-CAMP, highlighted how constant collaboration helps identify strategic partners in tech and IP roles. Ms. Sukla Chandra, Dolby Laboratories, reflected on her supportive family as her first role model and noted the growing influence of women in IP, stating that now is an ideal time for women to lead and innovate in the field.
The event concluded with a celebration of the inspiring journeys and achievements of women leaders in IP, showcasing that continued innovation and meaningful collaboration are paving the way for greater impact and inclusion in the field.
