The 7th AIPLA Women in IP Law Committee Global Networking Event 2025, Hyderabad- April 9, 2025

The 7th AIPLA Women in IP Law Committee Global Networking Event 2025, hosted by the LexOrbis Hyderabad office, was held in #Hyderabad, #Telangana, on Wednesday, April 9, 2025. The event marked the culmination of a series of impactful discussions centred on “Innovation and Collaboration”, convening distinguished professionals from various sects of IP.

Dr. Divya Singh, Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology, spoke about the importance of visibility and active participation for women aspiring to leadership roles. She shared that opportunities often come to those who consistently show up, but women sometimes hold themselves back due to internalised or societal constraints.

Karuna Sree, Hetero Drugs Ltd., highlighted that leadership requires resilience, strong listening skills, and the ability to make informed decisions. She emphasised the value of initiative and effective collaboration, sharing a patent case where a blend of legal and technical expertise led to a successful outcome, demonstrating how cross-functional strengths drive innovation.

Dr. Radhika Vangala, BITS Pilani, Hyderabad Campus, shared her views on the unconscious bias that still hinders women’s rise into leadership positions despite their capability. She pointed out the importance of visibility, versatility, and flexibility both at work and in the home.

Continuing this conversation, Sridevi Kasu, Aurigene Pharmaceutical Services Limited, reflected on the evolving role of women in IP and IT, noting how their strategic and innovative contributions are transforming the industry. She contrasted the 1990s—when women in IP were rare—with today’s scenario, where women make up 30–40% of IP teams in the pharmaceutical sector, marking remarkable progress.

The panel was skillfully moderated by Swati Tata, Confederation of Indian Industry – IPR South. She opened the session by highlighting the powerful shift women are creating in IP leadership. From law and policy to enforcement and commercialisation, women are redefining success with authenticity, resilience, and vision.

The Hyderabad edition was a fitting conclusion to a series of inspiring sessions across India. The session served as a strong reminder that women are not only collaborators in innovation—they are leaders shaping the future of intellectual property with bold ideas and unwavering commitment.
